Elongated curve
Following drawing and animation show curve lubrication in case 1.
At
HIGH travel speeds (and LARGE curve radii) e.g. travelling through a right curve on grooved rails or head rails (vignol rails) the gauge exactness sidewalls of the flange need to be lubricated, because of the high pressure forces which occur through CENTRIFUGAL FORCES. In this case all wheel sets are axially pressed to the outer rail.

While curve travel
principally only lubricate the gauge exactness sidewalls or inside micrometre sidewalls of the wheel tire’s flange which lie to the gauge exactness sidewalls of the rails or secondary rails due to axial pressure or centrifugal forces. ONLY IN THIS CASE lubrication is needed and the desired effect – reduction of wear off – is reached.
